Tragedy at Nanga Parbat as Czech Woman Falls to Death

A tragic incident occurred at the Nanga Parbat base camp on July 3, 2025. As a Czech woman climber, Kolouchava Klara, died after falling into a ravine between Camp One and Camp Two. The accident took place in the early morning hours and was later confirmed by local authorities in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Initial reports suggested that the climber may have died due to an oxygen cylinder explosion. But further investigation confirmed that she fell into a ravine, which ultimately caused her death. Klara was part of a foreign expedition team that had been staying in Chilas since mid-June before making their way to the mountain’s Bonner Base Camp.

Nanga Parbat, also known as the “Killer Mountain,” is the ninth-highest peak in the world and is infamous for its treacherous climbing conditions. Over 30 climbers lost their lives attempting to scale it before the first successful summit in 1953. Unfortunately, this latest incident adds to the mountain’s grim reputation.

Authorities have launched an official investigation following orders from the Gilgit-Baltistan government. A rescue operation is now underway to recover Klara’s body, with helicopter support planned to reach the remote location. The rest of her team is reported to be safe and has returned to base camp to assist officials.

The Czech woman’s death at Nanga Parbat has once again highlighted the risks associated with high-altitude climbing and the need for extreme caution during such expeditions.
