Seoul hologram police patrols are now a reality as the city takes futuristic steps to ensure safety on its streets. In a bold move, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency has deployed life-sized holographic officers in public areas to prevent crime and boost citizens’ sense of security.
How the Holographic Officers Work
The holographic police officers, developed by UK-based firm Hologramica, stand around 170 centimeters tall. They wear uniforms and appear between 7 PM and 10 PM at Jodong No. 3 Park, one of the busiest spots in central Seoul.
These officers send pre-recorded reminders to the public, warning that the area is under monitoring and that swift action will follow in case of theft or other crimes. While they cannot physically stop offenders, their presence alone has had a strong psychological effect.
Results of the Pilot Project
The idea was first tested in October 2024 as a pilot project. Since then, authorities report a 22 percent drop in crime incidents in areas where holographic officers were installed. Police officials say this shows the effectiveness of blending technology with law enforcement.
Chief Ahn Dong-Hyun of Jungbu Police Station described the holographic presence as a “smart security device” that not only discourages bad behavior but also reassures residents.

Public Reactions and Future Plans
Not everyone is impressed. While some citizens feel safer, others remain indifferent to the virtual police. Still, the authorities see this as the future of public safety. Plans are underway to expand the use of AI-powered holographic officers to other regions across South Korea.
By combining hologram technology and artificial intelligence, Seoul hologram police patrols aim to set a global example of how digital tools can enhance crime prevention in urban spaces.
