Pakistan Confirms Salman Ali Agha as Captain for 2026 World Cup

Pakistan has confirmed that Salman Ali Agha will continue as the captain for the 2026 T20 World Cup. The team management and senior PCB officials expressed complete trust in his leadership. They believe he has helped the team grow stronger and more united during the last year.

The 2026 T20 World Cup will take place in India and Sri Lanka during February and March. The event carries great importance for Pakistan as the team aims to improve its global standing. Earlier reports suggested that Shadab Khan or Shaheen Shah Afridi might take over the captaincy. However, the board has now made it clear that no change is under consideration.

PCB Praises Salman’s Leadership

PCB insiders shared that Salman has restored discipline and focus within the squad. They feel the players are more confident and settled under his command. A senior official said that the team now plays with better unity and attention. This improvement has strengthened the case for keeping him as captain.

Pakistan enjoyed a strong year in T20 cricket. The team recorded twenty one wins in 2025. This was the highest number of victories among all full member nations. Salman led the side in thirty eight of his forty T20 Internationals. During this time, he scored six hundred and seventy one runs at an average of 24.85. These numbers place him third on Pakistan’s list of most successful T20I captains after Babar Azam and Sarfaraz Ahmed.

His captaincy record includes a Tri Nation Series win and a place in the Asia Cup final. He also silenced critics with an unbeaten sixty three against Sri Lanka in the recent tri series. This innings helped ease concerns about his batting form.

Shadab Khan Nears Return to the Team

Shadab Khan is set to rejoin the national squad during the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. He last played for Pakistan in June before undergoing shoulder surgery in London. He has trained at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore and is expected to prove his fitness in the Big Bash League. The tournament begins on December fourteen and will give him much needed match practice.

Players who are part of the Big Bash League will leave next week. After their departure, selectors will meet to finalize the squad for the Sri Lanka series. They will review fitness, performance, and workload before making the final decision.
