In a rare and medically complex birth, quintuplets were born prematurely, three girls and two boys, delivered via emergency caesarean section at just 29 weeks of pregnancy. The babies were born in Baldia Town, Karachi, and are currently receiving intensive care due to their extremely premature status.
This marks the first pregnancy for the couple, one year into their marriage. The father, Adnan Sheikh, expressed joy and anxiety, saying he is “overwhelmed with happiness” and hoping for the safe recovery of all five infants. His wife, who underwent surgery to deliver the babies, is reported to be in stable condition.
Quintuplets Born Prematurely Require Intensive Neonatal Support
The infants were born significantly ahead of the normal 37 to 40-week gestation period, making their condition highly delicate. Doctors classified them as “extremely premature,”. And all five required immediate oxygen support due to underdeveloped lungs, a common risk in such early deliveries.
The newborns are now under 24-hour observation in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), where specialists are monitoring their development. A neonatologist from the hospital described the case as “medically rare and highly sensitive,”. Adding that the survival and long-term health of the infants will depend on the ongoing care they receive in the coming weeks.
