Punjab Makes Public Transport Free for All Citizens Under Relief Package

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a major relief package for citizens across the province. Free public transport is its most immediate and visible measure. The package aims to ease financial pressure on ordinary citizens during the ongoing global economic crisis.

The announcement covers all major cities in Punjab. It applies to multiple public transport services currently operating across the province.

What the Free Transport Package Includes

Commuters across Punjab can now travel without tickets. Free services include the Lahore Orange Line Metro Train, Metro Bus, Speedo Bus, and Green Electric Buses. The provincial government confirmed that this move aims to reduce daily financial burdens on working citizens. Moreover, it encourages greater use of public transport networks across the province.

The relief package also extends to the agriculture sector. Farmers will receive direct cash assistance along with a diesel subsidy of Rs. 100 per litre per acre. This support aims to protect agricultural activity and strengthen food security. As a result, rural communities will also benefit directly from this package.

Additionally, every registered motorcycle owner will receive a fuel subsidy of Rs. 100 per litre on up to 20 litres of fuel. Motorcycles remain the primary mode of transport for millions of low income families in Punjab. Therefore, this subsidy offers meaningful and direct relief to a large segment of the population.

Government Message to the Public

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz urged citizens to use the free transport facilities now available to them. She stated that the government will continue introducing measures to support citizens through difficult conditions. Furthermore, officials emphasized that the agriculture and fuel subsidies reflect a broader commitment to helping both urban and rural communities equally.

Public reaction has been largely positive. Many citizens welcomed the free transport decision as a practical form of immediate relief. Social media users praised the initiative, particularly in Lahore. Hundreds of thousands of daily commuters use the Orange Line Metro Train and Metro Bus every day. Consequently, the impact of this decision will be felt quickly and widely across the city.

The relief package signals a clear policy direction from the Punjab government. As economic pressures continue to mount on ordinary families, the province is taking visible steps to provide direct and accessible support to its citizens.
