PSL Ball Tampering Case Against Fakhar Zaman Reaches Final Stage

Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman is now waiting for an official verdict after the PSL ball tampering case against him reaches its final stage. Match referee Roshan Mahanama will deliver the decision following the conclusion of a second and final disciplinary hearing on Monday.

The incident took place during Lahore Qalandars’ defeat against Karachi Kings on Sunday. Before the final over, umpires awarded Kings five penalty runs after they ruled that Fakhar had unfairly altered the condition of the ball. At that point, Kings needed just 14 runs to win. Lahore went on to lose the match. Fakhar has strongly denied the charge and maintains that he did not tamper with the ball.

What Cricket Law Says About Ball Tampering

Cricket law takes a firm stance on this issue. Law 41.3.2 clearly states that no player can take any action that changes the condition of the ball. Players can only shine the ball using natural sweat. Therefore, any other interference counts as a direct violation of the rules.

Since this is Fakhar’s first ever ball tampering charge, officials will likely hand him a one or two match ban in the PSL if they find him guilty. However, the final call now rests entirely with match referee Roshan Mahanama, a former Sri Lanka international with strong experience in cricket officiating.

What This Means for Fakhar and Lahore Qalandars

Fakhar Zaman is a major figure in Pakistan cricket. He has represented the national side in T20 internationals and has scored 2,494 runs across 110 innings at an average of 23.98. Consequently, any suspension would hurt Lahore Qalandars significantly during a critical phase of the tournament.

Ball tampering remains one of the most sensitive topics in cricket. Several high profile cases in recent years have shown that findings of guilt carry serious reputational damage beyond just sporting penalties. As a result, both Fakhar and the franchise are under considerable pressure ahead of the verdict.

Lahore Qalandars have not released a detailed public statement since the hearing ended. Furthermore, no official timeline exists for when Mahanama will announce his decision. Nevertheless, both sides are expected to respond publicly once the ruling comes through.

Fakhar remains available to play while the verdict is still pending. However, his status for upcoming Lahore matches will depend directly on the outcome of this case.

The PSL takes disciplinary matters seriously to protect the integrity of the competition. Fans, franchises, and cricket observers across Pakistan are closely watching this case. The decision, whenever it arrives, will carry major consequences for one of Pakistan’s most recognised cricket stars.
