Pakistani Classic Bol Kaffara Copied Again by Bollywood Featuring Sonam Bajwa

Bol Kaffara, the qawali-style song that became an unexpected Pakistani classic, is once again at the center of controversy. Originally used as the OST for the drama Parlour Wali Larki, the track outshone the series itself, winning millions of hearts across Pakistan. Over the years, its soulful melody has crossed borders, but each time it does, it ignites debate over credit and originality.

A Pakistani Hit Turned Indian Favourite

Bollywood’s fascination with Bol Kaffara is not new. Indian singers and production houses have remade it multiple times, often without giving proper credit to the original creators. First, singer Jubin Nautiyal released a version of the song that was widely circulated in India. Now, singer Neha Kakkar has performed another rendition for the upcoming film Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat.

Adding fuel to the fire is the film’s casting. The movie stars Harshvardhan Rane, known for his role alongside Mawra Hocane in Sanam Teri Kasam. Ironically, Rane has previously criticized Pakistan on social media but is now starring in a film that features a Pakistani hit song. Alongside him, Punjabi star Sonam Bajwa features prominently in the video, dancing to the reworked track.

Pakistani social media users have responded strongly to the remake. Many see it as another example of Bollywood using Pakistani content without acknowledgment. Especially at a time of tense political relations. Comments like “You misbehave with Pakistan but keep stealing their songs” and “Bollywood can only copy” reflect a growing frustration among fans.

Despite the controversy, the repeated remakes underline Bol Kaffara’s enduring popularity. Its catchy tune and heartfelt lyrics continue to resonate across borders. Even if the credit often gets lost along the way. For Pakistani audiences, however, the debate highlights a larger issue of recognition and respect for the country’s artists and their intellectual property.
