Pakistan is preparing to make history by sending its first astronaut to space in 2026. The mission will take place through close cooperation with China’s space program and marks a new era in Pakistan’s scientific development.
This major announcement was made by Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal during his visit to Beijing. He met with senior officials from the China Atomic Energy Authority and China’s Space Agency, where key developments in space and nuclear cooperation were discussed.
Pakistan Astronaut 2026 Mission Tied to China’s Space Station
According to Ahsan Iqbal, the upcoming astronaut mission will be part of the Chinese space station program. He also highlighted recent progress in Pakistan’s space journey under the “Uraan Pakistan” initiative.
This is not Pakistan’s first step into space. The country, with China’s help, recently launched three satellites. Now, sending a human to space is the next bold milestone.
Iqbal also shared long-term plans, including a lunar mission by 2035. Pakistan’s space agency SUPARCO has been tasked with leading these projects. He noted that the country has established a Quantum Computing Center to stay ahead of emerging technologies.
The minister emphasized the importance of creating more opportunities for young Pakistani scientists. Ahsan Iqbal called for stronger education and exchange programs with China in the field of space research.
He also praised the ongoing success of the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He said that through strategic cooperation, projects like K-2, K-3, and C-5 nuclear plants have already shown positive results.
