The federal government has officially approved the printing of newly designed currency notes for four major denominations in Pakistan. The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s House. According to official sources, the new designs will be introduced for Rs 100, Rs 500, Rs 1,000 and Rs 5,000 banknotes. The cabinet gave formal approval for the printing process to move forward after reviewing the proposal. The State Bank of Pakistan has been working closely with global experts to develop the new designs. State Bank of Pakistan & Pakistan Security Printing Corporation
The approval comes after months of preparation and consultations between the State Bank of Pakistan and the Pakistan Security Printing Corporation. Once the final designs are approved, the printing process will begin. Officials have indicated that printing could take several months depending on production capacity and rollout plans.
During the same cabinet meeting, the government also discussed other important national matters. The draft Private Hajj Policy for 2027 to 2030 was sent back to the Hajj Policy Committee for further review. The policy focuses on the registration and verification of private Hajj operators. In addition, the cabinet ratified decisions taken by the Cabinet Committee on Energy and the Economic Coordination Committee in their recent meetings.
