In a significant development, India’s Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a charge sheet in a UAE murder case nearly 17 years after the crime occurred. The case centers around the murder of an Indian expat, Rama Lingam Natesan, in Abu Dhabi in 2008 following a dispute over an unpaid phone bill worth just AED 300.
Dispute Over AED 300 Ends in Tragedy
According to official reports, Natesan had sold international SIM cards on credit. When he tried to recover AED 300 from a man named Inder Jit Singh, he approached Singh’s employer requesting a salary deduction to settle the dues. This reportedly enraged Singh, who allegedly stabbed Natesan to death in a shocking act of violence that stunned the expat community.

CBI Pursues Justice in Long-Pending UAE Murder Case
The CBI, responding to requests from the UAE and working in coordination with the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, investigated the matter under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. The recent charge sheet was filed in India after years of procedural delays and cross-border coordination, highlighting a renewed commitment to delivering justice—even across international boundaries.
In addition to this, the CBI also filed a separate charge sheet in another international case—a 2011 Bahrain murder—underscoring India’s increasing responsiveness to global criminal accountability.
