British Pakistani mountaineer Nadia Azad has achieved another remarkable milestone by scaling Mount Manaslu in Nepal, the world’s eighth highest peak. With this climb, she has become only the second Pakistani woman to summit four mountains above 8,000 meters, adding to her already extraordinary mountaineering record.
Nadia Azad Adds Manaslu to Her Historic Climbing Achievements
Nadia, who has roots in Karachi and Balouch heritage on her father’s side, reached the 8,163-meter summit of Manaslu at 5:15 a.m. Nepal time on September 26. Known as the “mountain of the spirit,” Manaslu is one of the 14 peaks worldwide higher than 8,000 meters, all located in the Himalayas and Karakoram. Above this altitude lies the so-called “death zone,” making the achievement even more significant.
This summit marks Nadia’s return to extreme altitude after nearly two and a half years. Sharing her thoughts on Instagram, she wrote, “This summit was more than a return, it was a reminder of why I climb. The mountain doesn’t hand out summits; it demands respect, patience, and humility.”

Her previous feats include summiting Annapurna I (8,091m) in April 2023, one of the deadliest peaks, followed weeks later by back-to-back ascents of Mount Everest (8,849m) and Lhotse (8,516m). Nadia has also completed the prestigious Seven Summits challenge, climbing the highest mountain on each continent, including Denali, Aconcagua, Kilimanjaro, Elbrus, Vinson, and Carstensz Pyramid. She is only the second Pakistani woman after Samina Baig to achieve this distinction.
Beyond mountaineering, Nadia is a passionate marathoner. She has already completed the New York, Berlin, and London marathons and plans to compete in Chicago next month as she works toward finishing all six Abbott World Marathon Majors. Her achievements make her an inspiring figure for Pakistanis worldwide, showcasing perseverance, discipline, and dedication at the highest level.
