Speculation about the possible return of Multan Sultans has intensified after a major ownership change involving a Pakistan Super League franchise. Reports suggest that CD Ventures has acquired a 98 percent stake in Sialkot Stallionz from OZ Developers, ending weeks of uncertainty surrounding the team’s ownership structure.
The development follows a series of disputes and conflicting claims that created confusion about who controlled the franchise. OZ Developers had originally purchased the Stallionz in January for a record Rs 1.85 billion during the PSL team auction. However, the ownership arrangement quickly became complicated after internal disagreements emerged among stakeholders.
Earlier announcements indicated that Australia based Alpha Sports Group would hold a significant share in the franchise. The group reportedly acquired a 75 percent stake shortly after the auction. Soon after, Alpha exited the arrangement following a public dispute, raising questions about the stability of the ownership setup.
Further controversy arose when businessman Mohammad Shahid claimed he held a 76 percent majority stake alongside Hamza Majeed. Shahid alleged that shares were sold without his consent or legal approval. Majeed rejected the claims and stated that the dispute did not relate directly to the PSL franchise. He also clarified that no formal agreements were finalized and no payments were made to the Pakistan Cricket Board or PSL authorities.
Ownership change fuels franchise identity speculation
Recent reports now indicate that OZ Developers has transferred 98 percent of its shares to CD Ventures, a group led by cricket enthusiast Gohar Shah. The reported deal effectively shifts operational control of the franchise ahead of its expected debut season.
With new ownership in place, discussions have begun about whether the team’s name and identity could change. Fans on social media have suggested reviving the Multan Sultans brand, which previously enjoyed strong support in the league. However, no official confirmation has emerged regarding a name change or rebranding.
Cricket analysts note that franchise identity decisions require approval from the Pakistan Cricket Board. Any rebranding process must follow league regulations before the team participates in official matches.

The franchise is expected to make its PSL debut on March 26, leaving limited time for organizational decisions. Until authorities confirm any changes, the possibility of multan sultans return remains speculative.
The ongoing developments highlight how ownership transitions can influence team branding and fan expectations in franchise cricket. As preparations continue, supporters await official announcements that will determine whether the Stallionz retain their identity or adopt a new chapter linked to PSL history.
