Astronomy enthusiasts in Pakistan are in for a treat as the first supermoon of 2025 will light up the skies on October 7. According to the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco), the event will be visible worldwide, including across Pakistan.
A Night of Brighter and Bigger Supermoon 2025
A supermoon occurs when the Moon reaches its perigee, the point in its orbit closest to Earth. This proximity makes the Moon appear larger and brighter than usual. Suparco officials confirmed that the October 7 supermoon will look 14% bigger and 30% brighter than an average full moon.
On that night, the Moon will be only about 224,599 miles (361,400 kilometres) away from Earth. The last supermoon appeared nearly 11 months ago in November 2024, making this an eagerly awaited celestial event.
The October supermoon is the first in a series of upcoming lunar spectacles. After this, skywatchers can look forward to two more supermoons on November 5 and December 5, 2025. Another is expected in early January 2026, though it will not be counted as part of the 2025 supermoon cycle.

This rare celestial event serves as a reminder of the beauty and wonder of the universe, bringing together communities of stargazers, science enthusiasts, and casual observers alike.
