Rawalpindi police have issued strict new guidelines to ensure full enforcement of the ban on kite flying across the city. The move comes ahead of the Basant season, when kite flying activity usually increases despite legal restrictions. The police have also instructed owners of high rise buildings, kite sellers, and record holders to submit surety bonds. These bonds will confirm that they will not facilitate kite flying in any form. Officials say this step will help stop the activity at its source.
Monitoring Increased Across the City
Police have been directed to install steel wires on flyovers to block kite strings. CCTV cameras will also be placed on rooftops of high rise buildings to improve monitoring. These measures aim to detect illegal activity quickly and allow immediate response.
In addition, police will increase surveillance at city entry and exit points. Courier companies and post offices will also come under strict watch. Authorities want to prevent the transport and sale of kites and chemical strings into Rawalpindi.
Acting Regional Police Officer Khalid Hamdani ordered the strict enforcement plan. SSP Operations Malik Tariq Mehboob shared the guidelines with divisional SPs, circle DSPs, and station house officers. All officers have been told to act without delay.
The guidelines clearly state that the Punjab government has imposed a complete ban on kite flying. Despite this, authorities observe a rise in activity every year before Basant. Police now want to take preventive steps well in advance to avoid incidents.
