Authorities in Karachi have launched a major crackdown on water theft in an effort to protect the city’s strained water supply system. The operation is being led by the Revenue Protection and Enforcement Cell of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation.
Officials confirmed that the campaign targets illegal connections that disrupt fair water distribution. The move comes as the city continues to face challenges in managing its limited water resources.
Operation targets illegal water connections
As part of the crackdown, authorities carried out a joint operation in the Sohrab Goth area along the Super Highway. The operation took place with the support of the Sindh Rangers, who assisted in ensuring security during the action.
Teams focused on a 16 inch diameter water supply line from which several unauthorized connections had been taken. These illegal links affected the flow of water to other areas and created pressure on the distribution network.
Officials removed all illegal connections during the operation. After removal, teams sealed the pipelines to prevent further misuse. Workers used wooden plugs to block access points and reduce the risk of future theft attempts.
Authorities also seized equipment used in the illegal activity. The items included donkey pumps, mono block pumps, PVC pipes, and valves. Officials believe these tools played a key role in diverting water from the main supply lines.
Efforts to protect water supply system
The crackdown forms part of a wider effort by the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation to control water theft across the city. Officials have emphasized the importance of taking strict action against those involved in illegal connections.
Water theft has long been a concern in Karachi, where supply shortages affect many residents. Unauthorized connections not only reduce availability but also damage infrastructure and disrupt equitable distribution.
By removing illegal links and sealing pipelines, authorities aim to restore balance in the system. The operation also sends a signal that enforcement actions will continue in other areas.

Officials plan to expand similar operations to different parts of the city where complaints of water theft persist. Increased monitoring and coordination with law enforcement agencies will support these efforts.
The latest action highlights the need for stronger regulation and public cooperation to manage water resources effectively. As the crackdown continues, authorities expect improved supply conditions for residents who rely on the official distribution network.
