Authorities in Islamabad have announced the temporary closure of all popular hiking trails in the Margalla Hills due to heavy rainfall warnings issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). The decision aims to safeguard citizens from potential hazards as the city braces for torrential downpours over the next 72 hours.
Islamabad Trails Shut Down Over Safety Concerns
The District Magistrate of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) has directed the closure of Trail 2, Trail 3, Trail 4, Trail 5, and the trail behind Saidpur Village starting Sunday, August 24, 2025. This move comes as part of wider precautionary measures in response to ongoing monsoon activity across Pakistan.

According to PMD, Islamabad and surrounding areas, including Rawalpindi, Murree, and Galliyat, are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. The forecast also raises the risk of flash floods in local streams and nullahs, posing a serious safety threat to hikers and residents in low-lying areas.
Authorities have urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel to affected areas and remain alert to weather advisories. Public safety teams are on standby to respond to emergencies, while officials continue to monitor conditions closely.
