New Hydrogen Stove Uses Water to Cook Food Without Natural Gas

A company called Greenvize has introduced a compact hydrogen cooking stove that generates its own fuel directly from water. The innovation could offer a clean and practical alternative to natural gas cooking for both homes and commercial kitchens. The system requires no external fuel supply or gas network connection to operate.

The stove integrates a proton exchange membrane electrolyzer directly into a standard cooking unit, allowing users to produce hydrogen on demand whenever they need it.

How the Hydrogen Stove Works

The stove splits water into hydrogen and oxygen through a process called electrolysis. The hydrogen immediately becomes the cooking fuel, while the only exhaust the system releases is water vapor. This makes the cooking process completely free of harmful emissions at the point of use.

The unit also releases oxygen during operation. Greenvize says this can actively improve air quality in the surrounding kitchen environment. Furthermore, the standard configuration requires no external storage tanks or fuel distribution infrastructure, making it simple to install and use in most settings.

According to Greenvize director and co founder Sanjeev Choudhary, the system needs around 100 milliliters of distilled or reverse osmosis water and approximately one kilowatt hour of electricity to start hydrogen production. This input supports up to six hours of continuous cooking. Additionally, users can pair the unit with rooftop solar panels, making it highly suitable for areas with unstable electricity supply or limited access to gas networks.

Storage and Customization Options

While the base system generates and consumes hydrogen in real time, Greenvize also offers optional storage configurations for users who need more flexibility. These allow hydrogen production during off peak hours or periods of strong solar generation, with the stored fuel available for use during high demand cooking periods.

Storage options include compressed gas cylinders operating at 200 to 300 bar and low pressure buffer tanks for shorter term use. Moreover, the company offers customized storage solutions based on specific client requirements, giving buyers meaningful flexibility in how they configure their system.

Energy Efficiency and Target Markets

Choudhary explained that the hydrogen system offers a different approach to energy use compared to traditional induction cooktops. Standard induction cooktops consume up to two kilowatts per burner and around 12 kilowatt hours over six hours of use. In contrast, the hydrogen stove converts electricity into fuel that burns directly, offering a more efficient energy pathway for sustained cooking.

The unit features stainless steel construction and integrated safety systems. Consequently, it supports continuous use in demanding commercial environments where reliability is essential.

Greenvize is targeting high demand settings such as hotels, community kitchens, and rural areas. These are environments where access to stable gas networks is often limited and where cooking reliability matters most.

Pricing and Availability

The single burner version of the hydrogen stove carries a price of 1,128 dollars plus GST. The double burner model costs around 1,610 dollars plus GST. Greenvize says the product aligns with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, which supports the transition toward more sustainable energy systems across the country.
