Karachi Gul Plaza Fire Leaves Many Dead and Missing

A tragic fire broke out at Gul Plaza, a popular shopping complex in Karachi built in the early 1980s. The blaze started on Saturday around 10 p.m. and quickly engulfed the building from all sides. Rescue teams arrived but faced extreme difficulty due to the intensity of the fire. Part of the building collapsed after being severely damaged, trapping many inside.

So far, 14 people have died, and around 59 remain missing. A firefighter, Furqan, also lost his life while battling the flames, leaving behind a wife and toddler. The incident has left Karachi residents deeply shaken and grieving.

The tragedy has drawn widespread grief from both the public and Pakistani celebrities. Stars like Minal Khan, Sajal Aly, Aiman Khan, Nadia Hussain, Hina Tariq, and Anmol Baloch shared their condolences on Instagram. Meanwhile, Mishi Khan, Nida Yasir, and Reham Khan recorded videos expressing sadness and criticizing government negligence.

Nida Yasir said she frequently visited Gul Plaza for her show’s props and equipment. She expressed her deep grief over the loss of human lives. Mishi Khan was seen crying in a video while observing the fire’s aftermath and urged officials to take responsibility. Reham Khan criticized the authorities, saying, “It’s not Gul Plaza that burnt; it’s Karachi that has been burning everywhere since the government took power.”

Celebrities Question Negligence

Many celebrities also highlighted government inaction. Nadia Hussain questioned the officials’ role in the incident, while actress Amber Khan and director Ehteshamudin voiced their protests in video messages. Their messages resonated widely on social media, amplifying calls for accountability.

A voice note from a trapped resident has also gone viral online, showing the terrifying experience of people inside the building during the blaze.

Karachi residents and citizens across Pakistan are expressing grief and offering prayers for the victims.
