In a touching display of compassion, a Saudi woman in Taif made headlines when the first wife donates liver to her husband’s second wife, saving her from years of suffering.
Noura Salem Al-Shammari, the first wife of Majed Baldah Al-Roqi, made the life-changing decision after watching her co-wife, Taghreed Awadh Al-Saadi, struggle with kidney failure for years. Despite extensive treatment, including a year in the United States, Taghreed’s condition did not improve. She relied on regular dialysis, and her health continued to decline.
Majed had planned to donate one of his kidneys to help Taghreed. Before the surgery, he entrusted his first wife with caring for their five children if anything happened to him. To his surprise, Noura announced that she would instead donate a major portion of her liver. She made the decision purely for the sake of God and to give her co-wife a new chance at life.
Medical tests confirmed a perfect tissue match. The transplant surgery went ahead successfully, with both women recovering well. Majed expressed deep gratitude, saying his wife’s gesture was like “rain reviving a barren desert.”

This act has gained widespread praise across Saudi Arabia and beyond. It highlights the strength of empathy, even in situations where personal relationships might be complex. Organ donation in the Kingdom continues to be promoted through awareness programs, but stories like this bring a deeply human perspective to the cause.
Noura’s generosity not only saved a life but also strengthened the bonds within her family. Her story serves as a reminder that when a first wife donates liver, compassion can transcend personal boundaries and transform lives in the most unexpected ways.
