No Power Banks Allowed on Emirates Flights under New Safety Rules

Emirates Airlines has announced the Emirates power bank ban, effective from October 1, 2025, as part of its proactive measures to reduce the risks associated with lithium battery incidents during air travel.

Key Rules Passengers Must Follow

  • Only one power bank under 100Wh is allowed per passenger.
  • Power banks must be stored in seat pockets or under the seat, not in overhead bins.
  • Power banks cannot be used to charge devices onboard.
  • Charging power banks using the plane’s power supply is strictly prohibited.

Why the New Policy?

Lithium batteries in power banks can overheat, catch fire, or even explode due to a phenomenon known as thermal runaway. The risk increases when passengers use low-quality power banks without overcharge protection. Emirates aims to minimize these dangers by limiting usage and ensuring devices remain within easy reach of the crew.

Safety Benefits

  • Storing power banks nearby allows quick crew response in case of overheating or fire.
  • Banning onboard charging reduces the chances of temperature-related incidents.
  • The new measures create a safer flying environment for all passengers.

With the Emirates power bank ban, the airline continues to prioritize passenger safety while addressing the growing number of lithium battery-related incidents on flights worldwide.
